Paper Cranes for the Emperor
In rainy Meiji Tokyo, teacher Yui fights to save her neighborhood shrine path while railway surveyor Kenji maps the most efficient line. Opponents at first, they join forces against a corrupt official and discover that the straightest route is not always the most honest. Through town meetings, map arguments, and one night folding paper cranes, they reroute both the railway and their hearts. A tender, principled slow-burn romance about progress, memory, and the courage to choose each other. Free sample available.
